Braves take 4 titles, advance 10 to mat semistate

    PORTLAND — "All in all it wasn't a bad day, getting 10 through with  four champs, a second and three thirds. I was pretty pleased," stated Bellmont wrestling coach Brent Faurote have his Braves flexed their muscles at the Jay County Regional wrestling tourney Saturday.
    Seniors John Mahlan, Ryley Hankenson, and Travis Thatcher all repeated as regional champs for the Braves, and and senior Daniel Meyer took the heavyweight crown, pinning promising SA frosh Maverick Morningstar in the final.

Waugh takes pair of sectional wins for Stars

    PORTLAND—South Adams continued its tradition of sending swimmers to the IHSAA state finals in swimming on Saturday as senior Erika Waugh breezed to a pair of individual victories in the 100 backstroke and 500 freestyle in the 37th annual IHSAA state swimming sectional held at Jay County High School.
    Waugh was impressive in the backstroke event as she easily beat the field with a clocking of 1:00.85. When she touched the pad to finish her race, she was over three seconds ahead of the second place Norwell swimmer,

City utility gets perfect score, IDEM praise

            The City of Decatur’s Storm Water Utility has come in for some high praise from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM).
            Joan Eichhorn, superintendent of the city’s storm water department, told city council at its meeting this week that the city’s Storm Water Permit Program – mandated by IDEM – has received a perfect score from IDEM.

    Robert A. Bombka, 71, of Decatur, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2011, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
    He was born on July 29, 1939, in Fort Wayne to Boyce and Barbara (Sewart) Bombka.
    He married Judith A. Mahlan on August 8, 1959.

Geraldine L. Douglas

    Geraldine Lucille Douglas, 73, of Decatur, died Friday at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
    She was born in Hoagland on April 14, 1937, to Ray and Pansy Biggs Heiser.
    Geraldine married Theodore E. Douglas on March 22, 1958; he survives.

Carolyn J. Gerber

    Carolyn J. Gerber, 71, formerly of rural Craigville, died at 11:50 p.m. Thursday in Christian Care Retirement Community at Bluffton.
    She was born on December 25, 1939, in Decatur to Harry and Berniece Hanni Frauhiger.
    She married William "Bill" Gerber on March 19, 1961, in Wells County; he survives.

William C. Johnloz

    William C. Johnloz, 96, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at River Terrace Estates in Bluffton.
    Mr. Johnloz was born on October 26, 1914, in Adams County to Charles and Lillian (Diehl) Johnloz.
    He worked as an electrician at General Electric for 35 years and was a farmer for over 50 years. Mr. Johnloz was a member of Murry Missionary Church and a graduate of Lancaster High School in Wells County in 1932.

    Jerry J. Ray, 62, of Geneva, died Friday at Adams Memorial Hospital.
    He was born to Paul W. and Grace D. Ray.
    Among survivors are his mother, Grace Anderson of Hartford City, and three daughters, Mrs. Levi (Rheannon "Dee Jay") Barker of Monroe, Sherry Clark-Aguirre of Geneva, and Jana Stapleton-Hunter of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Kenneth D. Reinking

    Kenneth D. Reinking, 44, of Decatur, died Friday at home after a long battle against cancer.
    He was born in Decatur on March 18, 1966, to Donald C. and Lorene E. Bohnke Reinking.
    Surviving are his mother, who lives in Decatur; two sisters, Mary Reinking and Mrs. Sam(Deborah) Schultz of Decatur; and two brothers, David and Mark Reinking of Decatur.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, near Preble, with burial in the church cemetery.
