January 19th
Phyllis J. Rapp, 87, formerly of Decatur, died at 10:20 p.m. Monday in The Village of Heritage nursing home in Monroeville, where she had resided for the past five years.
She was born on August 25, 1923, in Springfield, Ohio, to Paul and Zelda M. Haley Pollock.
She married Clarence K. Rapp on November 9, 1946, in Kentucky and he passed away in May of 1998.
Phyllis was a homemaker and had been employed by National Supply and by Robbins and Myers, both in Springfield.
Tangela R. Scherbring, 39, of Decatur, died Monday at home.
She was born in Bluffton to Bryce W. and Dorothy Hamrick Brickley, who are deceased.
Surviving are a daughter, Sarah J. Sharpe of Decatur; three brothers, Bryce Brickley of Keystone, and Joe and Jay Brickley of Bluffton; and four sisters, Tina Brickley of Garrett; Darlene Flick of Bluffton; Doris Brickley of Illinois; and Pricella Phillips of Glendale, Arizona.

PORTLAND—Bellmont's 400 freestyle relay teams left nothing to chance Saturday by sweeping the top two positions in the final race of the day and the Braves captured the boys title of the Jay County Swimming Invitational over four other teams.
South Adams, rated No. 19 in the state, completed a perfect wrestling regular season over the weekend by capturing the Tri Invitational with a 5-0 mark.
For the season, the Starfires finished 27-0, going 5-0 at Tri, the ECIC at Jay County, the New Castle Super Duals, the Spencer Haworth Invitational at SA, and at the Homestead Super Duals.
The Stars had one close match Saturday, defeating Alexandria 37-31. The Stars also defeated Hamilton Heights 54-15, Southridge 58-9, Northeastern 72-9 and Tri High 76-6.
Plans for work on the new physician's office building being constructed by the Adams Health Network (AHN) adjacent to the Adams Memorial Hospital were discussed at the monthly meeting of the AHN board of trustees.

Luella Amstutz, 92, of Berne, died Monday in Swiss Village Retirement Community.
She was born to Ralph and Martha Cordier Monroe.
Among survivors are a son, John M. Amstutz of Geneva, and two sisters, Luetta Hill and Mrs. Rudy (Marjorie) Brehm of Celina, Ohio.
Edward E. Dick, 83, formerly of Decatur, died today at Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur.
Ralph R. Grote, 89, of Decatur, died at 5 a.m. Monday in the nursing center at Woodcrest Retirement Community.
He married Irene C. Conrad on March 28, 1943, in Immanuel Lutheran Church; she survives.
He was an auto mechanic for 49 years, a charter member of the Union Township Lions Club, and a member of American Legion Post 43 in Decatur, of which he had served as commander.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
