Braves at South Adams tonight

January 4, 2011

    The junior varsity game will begin at 6 p.m. tonight at the Stardome as Bellmont travels to South Adams for boys basketball action.
    No frosh game is scheduled.
    Bellmont will take a 3-3 record into the contest after the recent win over Adams Central. The Starfires are 2-5.
    School officials note that the Bank of Geneva will conduct a $100 shooting contest at halftime of the varsity game.

Gould was part of historic event

    Many people in Adams County know what Jay Gould has been doing the past 45 years as an advisor and an aide to local farmers at two United States government agencies.
    However, almost no one knows what Gould was doing in 1962.
    As the 71-year-old rural Berne resident prepared to retire, he reported that, 48 years ago, he was a member of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division and was called to duty twice for major domestic and international events:

Pence travels indicate run for governor

    U.S. Rep. Mike Pence is scheduling Republican Lincoln Days Dinner all over Indiana, Howey Politics Indiana has reported.
    It is the best clue yet that he is preparing to launch a 2012 Indiana gubernatorial campaign, as opposed to seeking the presidency. "He is scheduling larger counties," a Republican source told HPI on Monday.
    "If he is running for president, it would be an interesting and novel strategy. We could call it the Win Indiana Strategy!"

Covered bridge gets $400K grant

    The third time proved to be a charm for Adams County and the South Adams Trails Inc. group. State officials on Thursday announced that nearly $400,000 in historic preservation grant funding had been awarded for the renovation of the covered bridge near Ceylon.
    Local preservationists had been rebuffed twice earlier in their attempts to secure federal Community Development Block Grant funds for the rehabilitation project.

Geneva council gears up for 2011

    The Geneva Town Council made appointments for 2011 during its year-end meeting last Thursday. The council also welcomed its newest member, Doug Milligan, who ran unopposed in the November election.
    Milligan, who has served as Geneva's clerk-treasurer and also as the town manager, replaces Mike Schwartz, who served on the council for 12 years.

Penn rallies to nip Braves at Mishawaka

    MISHAWAKA — Bellmont put up a strong effort for the two-day Al Smith Classic at Mishawaka last week, but a rally by Penn in the final round plus a bad break for the Braves — a broken hand suffered by junior 140-pounder Brooks Faurote — resulted in a narrow Kingsmen win, 208-205.

Lady Jets dump Rebs

    MUNCIE—The Adams Central girls varsity basketball team enjoyed an early New Year's present Thursday night by traveling to Muncie Southside and claiming a 51-32 victory over the Rebels.
    The Jets won three of the four quarters. After two lead changes and two ties, the AC squad took a 20-18 lead at the half and then posted 16-7 and 15-7 margins in the final two stanzas to earn the victory.

E. Ann Blaney

    E. Ann Blaney, 77, a longtime Decatur resident, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at The Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford, Ohio.
    Ann was born on June 9, 1933, to Edward and Helen (Smith) Fisher.
    On June 21, 1958, she married Bob Blaney; he passed away on April 1, 2008.
    Ann retired from teaching in 1992 from North Adams Community Schools after 33 years.
