The Lady Jets came to town to visit county-rival Bellmont in a battle at the Teepee and the Squaws defended their home turf well coming away with an impressive 59-34 victory against Adams Central improving winning their second straight game in a row after losing their first ten.
A five-alarm fire that brought out dozens of Adams County firefighters destroyed the rear of Affolder Implement Sales on the south end of Berne on Monday night, but no one was injured.
No monetary estimate of damage was available this morning, and the cause of the blaze has yet to be determined, according to Berne Fire Chief Bill Grimm, who said his department will investigate the cause.
After holding a public hearing held Monday night, with no other citizens of Monroe attending, the Monroe Town Council unanimously agreed to raise water rates by an average of 18.5 percent, starting next month.
Council Chairman Al Lehman said the Monroe water utility has lost operating money in seven of the past nine years.
The Adams County CrimeStoppers agency is seeking information that will help police solve a rash of recent thefts of farm equipment in rural areas of Adams County.
The Adams County Sheriff's Department is currently investigating four separate thefts of such equipment.
Police said on November 9, three-point hitch tractor grader blades were stolen from a shed. These blades measured three and a half feet, four and a half feet, and five feet long. Also stolen in this theft was an old steel truck tire.
Dora S. Fleming, 97, of Decatur, died on Monday in the nursing center at Woodcrest Retirement Community.
She was born on May 24, 1914, in Adams County to Ernest and Minnie Fuhrman Doehrman.
Among survivors are two sons, Allen L. Fleming of Grove City, Florida, and James W. Fleming of Angola, and one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Kathleen) Bergdall of Decatur.
No funeral service will be held. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery at a later date.
Mary Lou Krick, 64, of Decatur, died on Monday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
She was born to William and Leotta Smith Doll Jr., who are deceased.
Among survivors are two sons, Aaron and Ryan Krick of Decatur; five sisters; and two brothers, including Bill Doll of Geneva.
No funeral service will be held. Burial will be in Beery Cemetery of Adams County.
Visiting hours are 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur.
Jana L. Wynn, 65, of Berne, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2011, at Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne.
Jana was born on March 7, 1946, in Adams County to the late Charles C. and Nolda G. (Agler) Hendricks.
On July 16, 1966, she married David A. Wynn.
Jana was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Decatur and a former choir member. She was also a homemaker.
