Storm water boss resigns

    The woman who has headed Decatur's storm water department since March of 2004, Joan Eichhorn, has resigned for "personal reasons" and reimbursed the city for almost $5,000 in claims which she submitted and which were disputed by the city.
    Eichhorn's resignation letter was dated Wednesday, December 14, the same day a hearing was held at City Hall by the Decatur Storm Water Board to discuss her situation. The board also met in executive session on December 6 to discuss the matter.

Declining NA numbers studied

    The continuous decline in enrollment at North Adams Community Schools and the transiency of students in and out of the school district was outlined in a report presented to the school district's board of education at its regular monthly meeting Tuesday.

SA board is given details on state indoor air quality rules

    At a meeting of the South Adams Schools Board this week, Director of Facilities Dave Vorhees gave a report on the new rules for indoor air quality.
    He said the schools are now required by the state to have written policies on vehicle idling, animals in the classrooms and chemical management. Some other requirements include monitoring carbon dioxide and humidity levels and taking care of water or mold damage within 48 hours of detection.

Herman C. Linnemeier

    Herman C. Linnemeier, 90, of rural Decatur, died Tuesday in Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home at Fort Wayne.
    He was born on October 17, 1921, to Edward and Nora Thiele Linnemeier.
    Among survivors are his wife, Ruth, to whom he was married for 70 years; a son, Eugene A. Linnemeier of Decatur; and a daughter, Mrs. Ken (Karen S.) Short of Fort Wayne.

Billie Wheeler

    Billie "Bill" Wheeler, 84, of rural Columbia City, died Tuesday in Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
    He was born to Melvin C. and Jessie Blondine Wheeler.
    Among survivors are his wife, Rosemary; two daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Sheryl) Schrader and Mrs. Michael (Marsha) Gradeless of Columbia City; and a son, Dane Wheeler of Decatur.

Railroaders’ run in third seals victory

December 15, 2011

    Three quick pops in succession from behind the arc by the Garrett Railroaders spelled defeat for the Bellmont boys basketball team Wednesday night at the Teepee as the Braves fell by a final 62-58 count.
