FORT WAYNE— The new-look Squaws had a tall order to take on in their season opener on Tuesday night as they started the coach Andy Heim era with a tough 53-22 loss at the hands of the Concordia Lady Cadets.
The Squaws managed only five points in the first half (two in the first quarter), putting themselves in a big 28-5 hole at the half that was just too much to handle for the new Bellmont squad.
By the end of 2012, the number of appointed school boards will decrease from 15 to at least 13 following action this week by the Indiana Department of Education which approved a request from the North Adams Community Schools to have an elected school board.
The non-partisan election will initially have four seats on the North Adams up for a vote next November. Two of those four seats will be occupied by new members while the other two will be replacements of current board members whose terms expire next fall.
Building a new jail is not under consideration by Adams County officials in the immediate future, but a joint meeting on Tuesday of the county council and county commissioners offered a different idea to help pay off debt for a new jail: shift payments from property owners to lawbreakers.
James “Jim” L. Blocker, 80, of Bluffton went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday at 5:30 a.m. at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
 Jim was born in Nottingham Township, Wells County, to Lester and Edith (Kleinknight) Blocker. He graduated from Rockcreek High School in the Class of 1949. He faithfully served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954.
Judith A. Ehlerding, 70, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at her residence.
She was born in Celina, Ohio, on October 31, 1941, to Paul E. and Dorothy A. (Harlett) Froning.
On December 2, 1971, she married Frederick K. Ehlerding.
Judy was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur and its Rosary Society.
Helen Mae Gerber, 99 of Bluffton, died Monday.
She was born in Adams County to John A. and Katie (Steffen) Isch. She married Alvin R. Gerber; he preceded her in death on May 31, 1998.
Among survivors are two daughters, Mary K. (Leon) Gerber of Warren and Jeanne (Jim) Rinkenberger of Bluffton, and two sons, Jay (Deb) Gerber of Bluffton
and Mark (Barb) Gerber of Bluffton;.
Wilbur L. "Willie" Schwaller, 77, of Decatur, died at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
He was born on January 30, 1934, in Ida Grove, Iowa, to Leonard and Anna Brinkman Schwaller,
He married Nancy Pinkerton on July 2, 1988, in Domestic, Indiana; she died on February 25, 2005.
