While Bellmont was still basking in a little playoff glory on Wednesday, coming off that impressive sectional semi-final win over Yorktown, the squad was turning its eyes on 9-2 Western, Friday's sectional championship game foe.
The game will be played at 7 p.m. at Russiaville (near Kokomo). It will be Bellmont's fourth sectional championship contest over the past five seasons.
With a Class A sectional championship and a winning season on the line, the Adams Central Flying Jets will seek on Friday to do what they have not done all year: beat a winning team.
The 6-5 Jets have recorded all their victories against schools with losing records: Union County, Blackford, Bluffton, Woodlan, Triton, and Fremont as they look to take down the favored North Miami squad.
South Adams is in the sectional finals this year marking their second appearance in a row. This year's group of Berne boys feels different than last year's version. They seem like they belong there this time.Take away the 0-5 start last season and you've got a South Adams football program that's won 16 of their last 18 games.
So what's different? Well those 19 juniors from last season's turnaround effort are now seasoned seniors salivating for redemption in the finals of sectionals.
Adams Central took first place in Class A during the Callithumpian Parade.
South Adams was second, Antwerp, third; New Haven, fourth; and Wayne, fifth.
Best music and best marching and maneuvering honors went to Adams Central, best general effect to South Adams.
While hearing a complaint from a citizen about one phase of Decatur's Operation Cleanup, Mayor John Schultz strongly vowed at Tuesday night's city council meeting that the program will continue.
Dennis Huffman of Decatur lodged the complaint, apparently after a vehicle he owns was "tagged" by the city. Huffman said his vehicle was operable and should not have received the tag, and that the crew in charge of the cleanup was tagging vehicles in business lots.
A Decatur man has been sentenced to four years in prison by Adams Superior Court Judge Patrick R. Miller.
Todd A. Hullinger, 43, rural Decatur, was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to intimidation of his wife. That case also violated his probation and he further broke probation by drinking alcohol, being a bar, missing counseling sessions, and missing a probation meeting, the court said.
Mary E. Bauman, 93, formerly of Geneva, died Wednesday at Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne.
She was born in Geneva on November 25, 1917, to Jesse O. and Mary E. Campbell Callihan.
Among survivors are a daughter, Mrs. DeWayne (Cheryl) Lehmann of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and three sons, Jay Bauman of North Webster, Indiana; Deryl Bauman of Decatur; and Brian "Rudy" Bauman of Geneva.
Alyce A. Haugk, 65 years old, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, in Adams Memorial Hospital's emergency room. Her death was unexpected and followed a brief illness.
She was born on Tuesday, October 1, 1946, in Decatur, the daughter of the late Chalmer H. DeBolt and the late Ruth I. "Toots" (Macklin) DeBolt.
She married Elroy Haugk on June 5, 1966, at First Presbyterian Church in Decatur.
Leland W. Sprunger, 69, of Berne, died Tuesday in South Haven, Michigan.
He was born in Adams County on May 11, 1942, to Arley and Emma I. Cline Sprunger.
Among survivors are his mother, of Berne, and three sons, Toby and Jeff Sprunger of Berne and Aaron Sprunger of Fort Wayne.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in MRE Cemetery, rural Berne, and a funeral service at 3 p.m. Sunday in First Missionary Church at Berne.
