A new wrestling mat, purchased for use at the Bellmont middle school and high school, was dedicated Tuesday in a brief ceremony, prior to the season opener.
The mat, honoring John Friedt, carries the words seen in photo on one corner.
Friedt, who passed away suddenly last February, was instrumental in starting the Decatur Wrestling Club and served over 30 years as an assistant varsity coach and was Bellmont Middle School coach for many years.
Although the temperature was a fairly-mild 41 degrees this morning, many of those who waited in line outside the Decatur Kmart store beginning at 4 a.m. for Black Friday deals bundled up with coats, hats and blankets to stay warm.
Shopping was continuing throughout the day in Decatur.

Grace L. Dubach, 86, of Berne, passed away on Thursday morning, November 24, 2011, at Swiss Village Retirement Community.
She was born to Solomon and Velma Burley Mosser on December 19, 1924.
Grace married Glen Dubach on May 24, 194; he survives.
She was a member of Cross Community Church in Berne, a homemaker, and a former chairwoman of the Dorcas Circle.
Her special interests were her family, quilting, and needlework.
Paul L. Harden, 92, of Decatur, passed away on Friday November 25, 2011, at the residence of his daughter, Nancy, and grandson, David Ireland, where he resided the past eight years.
Paul was born on February 13, 1919, in Adams County to Clyde and Edna (Welty) Harden.
On April 5, 1942, he married L. Catherine Sovine; she passed away on October 26, 2005.
Paul attended Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren in rural Decatur.
Jack E. Schnepf, 89, of Louisville, Kentucky, a former Decatur resident, died Thursday.

Walter Wiegmann, 85 years old, of Decatur, entered into eternal life at 1:50 p.m. on Thursday, November 24, 2011 at his residence.
Walter was born on Tuesday, April 27, 1926, in Fort Wayne, the son of Henry Wiegmann and Minnie Oetting Wiegmann.
Walter was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church–Preble in rural Decatur.
He was a graduate of the New Haven High School Class of 1944 and a graduate of Reppert Auction School in Decatur in 1945.
