Lions turn back Jets in OT, 86-79

    FORT WAYNE—They played dead-even with the highest-scoring team in the state—15 lead changes, 10 ties, and zero backdowns.
    They forced that team into its first overtime of what could become a historic season.
    They even caused that go-go team to stall a while in the fourth quarter.
    They did not, however, get a victory.

Squaws zip past ‘Skins

    FORT WAYNE—Bellmont held North Side scoreless for the first six and a half minutes of its girls varsity basketball game Thursday night at the By Hey Arena and came away with an easy 56-33 non-conference triumph to raise its record to 7-6 on the season.
    Bellmont had run up a 13-0 advantage before the Redskins could score and the closest North Side could ever get after that was nine at 19-10.

Bennett praises N. Adams

    North Adams Community Schools have received praise from State Superintendent of Instruction Tony Bennett for achieving adequate yearly progress (AYP) in each of the past seven years.
    In a letter from Bennett to Superintendent Wylie Sirk, Bennett congratulated the district for its efforts.
    "This is an outstanding accomplishment and I want to express my gratitude for the hard work of your teaching staff and the strength you have shown as superintendent in your district," Bennett's letter said.

Bill brings beer to State Fair

    INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Visitors to the Indiana State Fair will be able to drink a cold beer or sip Indiana wine as they chow down on fried food if one lawmaker gets his way.
    Rep. Robert Cherry, R-Greenfield, has filed a bill to lift a longtime ban on alcohol at the annual fair. He told The Journal Gazette of Fort Wayne that alcohol sales could provide needed revenue to the State Fair and allow the event to showcase Indiana wine and beer.
