Franklin T. Oliver

    Franklin T. Oliver, 89, of rural Monroe, died Thursday, September 30, 2010, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
    Frank was born on January 9, 1921, in Chapel, Nebraska, to Walter C. and Pearl I. (Strickler) Oliver.
    On October 21, 1949, Frank married Elizabeth T. “Betty” Oliver and she preceded him in death on February 3, 2009.

Norma V. O'Shaughnessey

    Norma V. O'Shaughnessey, 87, formerly of Decatur, died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday in The Village of Heritage nursing home at Monroeville.
    She was born on April 15, 1923, in Decatur to Herman N. and Abbie Uleman Meyer.
    She married Robert C. O'Shaughnessey on May 8, 1948;  he passed away on September 11, 1978.

Alvin G. Schell

    Alvin G. Schell, 69, a resident of Berne, passed away on Saturday at Swiss Village Retirement Community, following an extended illness. Alvin was a former resident of Portland and Geneva.
    Alvin was born on June 27, 1941, in Mercer County, Ohio, the son of Harry A. and Grace (Manor) Schell.
    He was a 1959 graduate of Madison Township High School in Jay County.

    Alexander Jacob Glant, one hour old, of Decatur, died today in Indiana University Medical Center at Indianapolis.

Harry Thornburg

    Harry "Dave" Thornburg, 77, of Decatur, died at 12:05 p.m. Thursday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
    He was born on April 22, 1933, in Kentucky to Herbert and Bethel Montjoy Thornburg.
    He married Marie LaTurner Yoder on August 8, 1976, in Wolcottville, Indiana, and she survives.
    He owned Dave's Tree Service from 1959-79 and was a truck driver for Florida Propane Service until retiring in 1996.

White trial delayed for a full year

    Extended scientific investigation of one strand of what appears to be human hair has caused a one-year delay in the Wells County trial of a man charged with murdering his estranged wife, a woman from Berne.
    The trial in Wells Circuit Court of Tyler White, 28, of Bluffton for allegedly shooting to death Amy White in a marital dispute on October 27, 2009, has been postponed until September 26, 2011. The trial had been scheduled to start next Monday.

AC band takes first

    The Adams Central High School Band captured first place in Class D competition in the Penn High School Invitational last weekend.
    The band also received the three top awards in its class: best music, best visual and best general effect.
    This Saturday, the Squadron of Sound will perform at 12:05 p.m. in the district Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) competition at Homestead High School.
