Beulah M. Schwartz

    Beulah M. Schwartz, 80, of Bluffton, died on Monday in Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
    She was born in Adams County on May 7, 1930 to Sam and Rose Minger Bertsch.
    Among survivors are two sons, Gary Schwartz of Bluffton and Dale Schwartz of Decatur, and one daughter, Mrs. Gary (Sharon) Merritt of Craigville.
    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Apostolic Christian Church at Vera Cruz, with burial in Apostolic Christian Cemetery.

Panthers to face tourney-savvy Squaws

    Opposites will be attacking tonight at the Teepee.
    Bellmont, one of the most consistent winners in Indiana volleyball history with 27 sectional championships, will play host tonight to Western, which now has exactly two sectional titles in its school history.
    "Our game goal was to win sectional," said second-year Western head coach Lindsay Reinking.

Thatcher is lst-team All-NHC

    Bellmont senior Brittany Thatcher was named recently first team All-NHC in girls soccer.
    Thatcher was one of five Bellmont girls to be named to the squad, which finished tied for third in the NHC with a 4-3 record.
    Thatcher was named as a midfielder for the Squaws.  Junior defender Shelby Wright and sophomore forward Andrea Fruchte were named to the second team.
    Senior midfielder Jessica Brewer and junior forward Taylor Kennedy were given honorable mention on the squad.

Trio seeking sheriff post

    Three men with a combined 76 years of law enforcement experience are seeking to fill a pending vacancy in the Adams County Sheriff's office, with voters to determine on Nov. 2 who will fill that role.

Food bank broke

    Decatur Operation Help, a food bank in use in the northern half of Adams County since 1983, will close Tuesday and Friday, the days it is normally open.
    Operation Help President Mary Jo Toole said the closure is necessary since the site is out of food and out of money. Toole said she hopes more of each will arrive in the following week.
    One problem, she noted, is that deliveries of government commodities have been delayed.

Squaws turn back feisty Knights for 27th sectional title

    FORT WAYNE — Bellmont persevered against a pesky Norwell squad Saturday night, closing out the Knights in three hard-fought games to earn a sixth straight sectional title and the 27th in the history of Bellmont volleyball.
    "I was proud the way the girls fought through Norwell's fierceness.  They wouldn't go away, but we wouldn't give in," said Krull of Bellmont's 25-14, 25-17, and 25-20 victory.

Warriors oust Jets; Luers cops Sectional 37 crown

    Adams Central concluded its 2010 volleyball season with a 3-0 loss to Woodlan in the Adams Central Sectional 37 semi-finals Saturday afternoon.
    The ACAC champion Warriors stopped the Jets 25-15, 25-21, and 25-21. Bishop Luers, then defeated the Warriors in four games to win the sectional crown. Luers earlier swept past South Adams in three games.
    Senior Hali Wendel led Central with 11 kills, adding 12 digs and 3 assists for the Jets, which closed out at 18-13 for coach Jeremi Schortgen.

V. Eugene Burry

    V. Eugene Burry, 83, of Berne, died Saturday in Swiss Village Retirement Community.
    He was born to Vilas and Ella Zimmerman Burry.
    Among survivors are four sons, Philip E. Burry of Marion; Stephen Burry and Paul A. Burry of Berne; and Mark E. Burry of Greensburg.
    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in West Missionary Church, rural Berne, with burial in MRE Cemetery, rural Berne.    

G. Frederick Dellinger

October 25, 2010

    G. Frederick Dellinger, 94, of Decatur, died at 10:15 a.m. Friday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
    He was born on July 2, 1916, in Adams County to Frank and Pearl Everett Dellinger.
    He married Marietta Meyer on January 18, 1936; she passed away on March 11, 2002.
    He retired with 35 years of service at General Electric Co. in Decatur, where he served as a union official.

David L. Robertson

    David L. Robertson, 68, of Berne, a native of Canada, died Friday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
    Among survivors are his wife, Barbara; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Brian (Deborah) Burke of Seymour; and four stepsons, Tony Mellencamp of Berne; Michael and Donnie Mellencamp of Columbus, Indiana; and Jamie Mellencamp of Greenwood.
    Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne, with visiting hours from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday.
