Alvin Hackman, 69, formerly of Decatur, died Monday at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur.
December 20th
Additions and subtractions were made to Adams Central's construction and renovation project by the AC school board at its recent meeting
The board, with member Mike Brown absent, voted 6-0 to add two items, costing about $80,000 overall, to the $10 million project.
The board agreed to spend at least $5,975, but no more than $7,975, to remove asbestos from around pipes in an underground tunnel. The work will be done by Environmental Technology Consulting Corp. of Fort Wayne.
Jay H. Gould of rural Berne, who has been an agricultural advisor and spokesman in Adams County as a federal government employee, will retire soon after a career lasting longer than 40 years.
He is currently head of the U.S. Farm Service Agency (FSA) office in Decatur, where a retirement party will be held on Tuesday, December 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. That office is located at 975 S. 11th St.
An announcement about the event says the FSA staff offers Gould "good luck and best wishes for his future."

Melissa J. “Missy” Baker, 34, of Ossian, passed away on Friday, December 17, 2010, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was born on December 8, 1976, in Bluffton to the late “Jack” Harrison and Dorothy (Perry) Harrison.
She worked as a dental assistant at Decatur Dental Services.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and attended Life Community Church.
David Alpha Barkley, 83, of Sevierville, Tennessee, formerly of Decatur, passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2010.
He was born on August 19, 1927, in Monroeville to Alpha Barkley and Florence (Foust) Barkley.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jovetta Barkley.
David was the owner and operator of Barkley Tires in Wears Valley, Tennessee, and attended Valley View Baptist Church.
Andres Villegas, 8, of Geneva, died Saturday evening in a traffic accident in Mercer County, Ohio.

Adeline S. Schwartz, 57, of rural Geneva, died Thursday at home.
She was born to Sam D. and Katie Graber, who are deceased.
Among survivors are her husband, Henry H.K. Schwartz; one daughter, Mrs. Cornelius (Sarah D.A.) Troyer of rural Geneva; and her stepmother, Wilma A. Graber of rural Norwood, New York.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday at her home, 1903 E. County Rd. 1000 South, with burial in Bunker Hill Cemetery, rural Geneva.
Based on preliminary budget assumptions for 2011, Adams Memorial Hospital (AMH) expects to be about a half million dollars in the black at the end of the year.
Adams Health Network (AHN) Executive Director Marvin L. Baird told members of the AHN board of trustees Wednesday night at their monthly meeting, "I feel very comfortable with the budget we're going to show you."
That budget projects net revenue of $50,556,320 with expenses of $49,992,907 for a balance of $563,413 in the black.
