    Sarah J. Hake, 69, of rural Decatur, died unexpectedly on Monday evening, December 13, 2010, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
    Sarah was the daughter of William and Patricia (Holthouse) Gass. She was born on October 2, 1941 in Decatur, Indiana.
    On August 12, 1961, she married Dale F. Hake.

Deborah Nussbaum

    Deborah Nussbaum, 60, of St. Petersburg, Florida, died December 10 at home.
    She was born in Decatur on April 7, 1950, to Calvin and Henrietta Sprunger Nussbaum, who are deceased.
    Among survivors are one son, Mitchel McGough of Littleton, Colorado, and two daughters, Audra Hedger of Plainfield, Indiana, and Cara Ferrin of St. Petersburg.

Winifred E. Weterick

December 15, 2010

    Winifred E. Weterick, 90, of Bluffton, died Tuesday at Christian Care Retirement Community.
    She was born to Cleophas E. and Marie Risley Myers.
    Among survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Jesse (Cheryl) Combs of Decatur, and two sons, Jon Weterick of Fort Wayne and Joe Weterick of Bluffton.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Thoma-Rich-Chaney-Lemler Funeral Home, Bluffton, with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery, Bluffton. Visiting hours are 2-8 p.m. Thursday.

Sirk: okay, and okay ‘pretty darn good’

    "We're okay, and considering the current economic crisis, okay is pretty darned good."
    That was the assessment offered Tuesday evening by North Adams Superintendent of Schools Wylie Sirk of the school district's year-end financial status.
    But while the district will end 2010 with a cash carryover of some $500,000, the superintendent said the financial future for school systems statewide remains uncertain.

Baker hired by SA board

    Tim Baker of DeVoss, Johnson, Zwick, Baker and Ainsworth Law Firm in Decatur has been chosen to advise the South Adams Schools Board in the appraisal and sale of the former Berne elementary school property.
    Board members approved a motion at the November meeting for Acting Superintendent Scott Litwiller to seek legal counsel to represent the school corporation during that process rather than the schools' attorney, Jim Beitler, because of a potential conflict of interest.

Chargers to make run at mat Braves

    According to the tale of the tape, the 6-0 Carroll Chargers may have their best chance ever to beat the wrestling Braves Thursday night in the NHC showdown at the Carroll gym.
    In fact, Bellmont coach Brent Faurote, who has never lost to Carroll in his 22 previous years at the helm, gives them the edge in seven matches while Bellmont is favored in six, with one toss-up, at 135 pounds.
