1902 depot in line for some work

    The 98-year-old, onetime Pennsylvania Railroad depot on Seventh St. hasn't been forgotten.
    The empty building is in line for some future repairs and it could even get an occupant before long, Mayor John Schultz said at Tuesday night's Decatur City Council meeting.

Fundraiser is on tap here Friday

    Andy's Coney Bar will hold a fundraiser from 5-9 p.m. this Friday at the Knights of Columbus Pavilion, 1703 High St., Decatur.
    Andy's —a new business in Decatur to hopefully open the first of the year — will be serving coney dogs, chili and old-fashioned root beer on Friday. Also planned, organizers said, are sales of cotton candy, children's activities, a silent auction, raffles and more.

Dorathea Hoffman

    Dorathea Hoffman, 82, of Decatur, died on Tuesday in the nursing center at Woodcrest Retirement Community. Funeral arrangements are pending at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur.

Joseph L. Hough

November 17, 2010

    Joseph L. Hough, 70, of Bryant, passed away at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at his residence, with family by his side.
    He was born on Friday, June 21, 1940, in Adams County to Rev. Burley Hough and Hulda (Kessler) Hough.     
    Joseph was married to Kathy Zerby, who survives.
    Joseph worked at General Electric for 25 years and at Geneva Manufacturing for 10 years. He was a lifelong farmer and horse grower.

Harold J. Siefring

November 17, 2010

    Harold J. "Lucky" Siefring, 81, of rural Decatur, died today at Adams Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur.

    "We've got 15 girls who want to play basketball, they enjoy being here and they're hustling and doing everything they can to get ready for the season," stated Bellmont girls basketball coach Tory Fuelling Monday afternoon as he squeezed in a picture session, taking valuable practice time away from his team, which has had little of that to prepare for tonight's opening game with Bishop Dwenger at the Teepee.

BHS girls top SA bowlers

    In the opening bowling action of the season, the South Adams boys tipped Bellmont because of total team points in a close varsity match at Haworth Lanes, while the BHS varsity girls scored a 17-3 victory.

BHS, Trine deal set up

    Officials from Trine University Middle College have announced a partnership with North Adams Community Schools that will expand the college's concurrent enrollment program and will allow BHS students to take pre-calculus (MA 123) classes for college credit at Trine.
    Bellmont pre-calculus teachers Michael Macke and Kent Arnold will serve as Trine adjunct professors, according to an announcement from the Angola school.

Lengerich gains top award from DAR

    Clayton Lengerich, a senior at Adams Central High School and president of his class all four years, is the 2010 winner of the annual Adams County Good Citizen award presented by the Antoine Rivarre Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
    The runnersup were seniors from Bellmont High School, Joe Baker, and from South Adams High School, Sam Amstutz.
    Students who enter the contest are judged on dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. Scoring is computed as follows:

    Tony Allen Kelly of St. Augustine, Florida, died on November 8, 2010, unexpectedly in Philadelphia.
    He is survived by his wife, Karen McBride Kelly, and three daughters, Shannon Kelly, Paige Pawson (Todd), and Alix Overbeek (Dan), along with four grandsons and one granddaughter; a sister, Nan Law of Port Charlotte, Floridaa, and five nieces and nephews.
