WOODBURN — Bellmont turned up the heat at Woodburn Saturday night, scoring at least 15 points in all four quarters while limiting the host Warriors to just 38 shots for the game in a 68-43 non-conference victory.
"We scored some points off of our press, and that's what I wanted us to do tonight," stated Bellmont coach Larry Patterson, who saw his Braves even their early-season mark at 1-1.
PERU — With five consecutive wins starting at 103 pounds, No. 5 Yorktown overcame a 22-12 Bellmont lead to score a 35-25 win over the No. 11 Braves in the title match at the Peru Invitational Saturday.
It was the third straight win for Yorktown over Bellmont. The Braves had won all 15 previous meetings.
Despite a slower than average previous month that caused a $232,254 drop in revenues at the Adams Memorial Hospital (AMH), hospital trustees recently learned that the hospital still is $318,791 in the black for the 2010 year.
"Most rural hospitals our size would be tickled pink to have the financial picture we do," pointed out Adams Health Network (AHN) Executive Director Marvin L. Baird after the financial report was delivered to trustees by Dane Wheeler, AHN chief financial officer.
Five members of a Fort Wayne family were injured in a car-buggy mishap at 6:53 p.m. Friday on U.S. 27.
An Adams County Sheriff's Department report said the accident occurred when a buggy driven by John V. Shetler, Jr., 19, rural Geneva, pulled out of a driveway near C.R. 300S onto U.S. 27 into the path of a car driven northbound by Brad A. Canter, 38, Fort Wayne.
The occupants of the Canter vehicle were injured in the resulting collision and taken to area hospitals.
Elvira W. Fuelling, 95, of Decatur, died at 2:15 a.m. Thursday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
She was born on August 4, 1915, in Allen County to William and Clara Thieme Hockemeyer.
She married Louis H. Fuelling on November 27, 1937, in St. John Lutheran Church (Flatrock) of rural Decatur; he passed away on May 12, 1972.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. John Lutheran Church and its Ladies' Aid organization.
Chloe D. Myers of Berne died Friday in Adams Memorial Hospital, one day before her 87th birthday.
She was born in Adams County on November 27, 1923, to Fred and Ida Smith Kauffman.
Among survivors are her husband, J. Robert Myers, and three daughters, Mrs. Larry (Cheryl) Leistner of Berne, Mrs. Deryll (Carol) Liechty of Berne, and Mrs. Mark (Myra) Moore of Linn Grove.
Clara Louise Scherer, 89, of Hoagland, died at 7:25 a.m. Saturday in Parkview Hospital at Fort Wayne, with her family by her side.
She was born on January 21, 1921, in Fort Wayne to Paul Wadsworth and Louise Bolman Wonderly.
She married Ray Scherer on August 2, 1947, in Trinity English Lutheran Church at Fort Wayne; he is deceased.
