Late General charge lifts Wayne over BHS

    The Wayne General ruined a strong early effort by Bellmont with a 13-2 run in the third period and then continued its attack in the final period to score a 59-46 victory  Wednesday night in the opening boys varsity basketball game of the season for both teams.

Starfire grapplers dump Woodlan

    South Adams opened its 2010-11 wrestling season Tuesday with a 49-28 win at ACAC-foe Woodlan.
    Scoring falls for the Stars were: Isaac Werst at 171, Cody Conner at 189, Todd Batt at 125, Gabe Sprunger at 135, Charlie Hirschy at 140, and Josh Ehr at 152.
    Frosh Maverick Morningstar opened his heavyweight career, taking a forfeit for the Stars. LJ Moser scored a decision at 112 for the winners while T.J. Burnfield ton 6-2 over Cody Zink at 145 pounds.

On the tailgating ‘map’

    Purdue plays its final home football game of the 2010 season this Saturday and if you wander around the tailgating which will be in evidence, you may see the famed Boilermaker Hearse.
    It comes from Decatur and it has become famous enough to make a special national tailgate list produced earlier this season by The Associated Press.

    The turkeys who survived Thanksgiving 2010 in Indiana may have drowned before the holiday was over.
    Heavy rains hit the state Wednesday and Thursday, bringing flash flood warnings in many counties.
    Officials at the Decatur weather station said this morning that a total of 2.36 inches of rain fell in the city over the two days, swelling the St. Marys River to 11.4 feet at 7 a.m. today — an 8-foot rise since a 3.4-foot reading at the same time Wednesday.

    Paul E. Cornett, 54, of Decatur, died at 10:21 a.m. Tuesday at his residence.
    He was born to Willie and Betsy Mae McQueen Cornett, who are deceased.

Elinor K. Hirschy

November 26, 2010

    Elinor K. Hirschy, 72, of Decatur, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Lutheran Hospital at Fort Wayne.
    She was born in Dayton, Ohio on April 4, 1938 to John and Thelma Hileman Bilderback. Her father is deceased, but her mother, now Thelma Kitson, lives in Decatur.
    She married Robert E. Hirschy on May 18, 1957 and he passed away on June 1, 2000.
    She was employed for 28 years at the former Decatur Bank and Trust Co., until retiring in 2003.
