INDIANAPOLIS—"He's doing quite well and hopefully will be coming home with us today," exclaimed Roxanne Bone this morning when asked how her son, Joel, was doing at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Bone suffered a potentially critical neck injury Monday night in a junior varsity football game while playing quarterback for Marian University against Anderson University. He suffered fractures to the top two vertebrae of his cervical spine located at the very top of the spine at the base of the skull.
Paul F. "Buzz" Neal, 71, of Geneva, died Wednesday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He was born in Adams County on April 12, 1939, to Waldo D. "Bud" Neal and Bernice P. Biery Neal.
Among survivors are his wife, Jane; three sons, Mark Neal of Seymour, Tennessee; Tom Neal of Fayetteville, West Virginia; and Jim Neal of Geneva; and three stepsons, Kenneth Noble Jr. of Decatur; Kevin Noble of Eaton; and Waylan Niece of Huntington.
Dennis R. Welker, 55, of Decatur, died at home on October 6, 2010.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur.
Decatur's annual Callithumpian Parade will be an early one this year, scheduled for Monday, October 25, but the annual fireworks show may not go off at all.
Travis Alexander, representing the city's Callithumpian Committee, appeared before Decatur City Council on Tuesday night to request several street closings. In so doing, he revealed dates for the parade and fireworks.
Larry Isch, recently retired from First Bank of Berne, has been selected as the 2010 Callithumpian Parade Grand Marshall.
Isch has been a member of the parade committee for 35 years and works diligently to make the parade a success, the Calllithumpian Committee said in making the announcement.
He was the recipient of the 2009 Service Award from the Callithumpian Committee.

Monroe St. near 12th St. between orange warning cones set up to guide traffic on that busy street past a sewer repair site, at left behind the parked municipal truck.
