Jets bounce Bengals from tourney; set for Woodlan

    Adams Central took care of business Thursday night in the opening round of Sectional 37 (2A) Volleyball play, handling Bluffton in straight games, 25-10, 25-11, and 25-13.
    Senior Hali Wendel was her dominant self,, whacking in 18 kills  with two blocks and 12 digs, and setter Alyssa Keller was busy with 30 assists, eight digs and five kills, plus an ace and a block.

Five BHS kickers named to All-NHC squad

    In one of the strongest soccer conferences in the state, Bellmont's players earned five slots overall, including a first-team position for junior forward Alex Hammond as the Northeast Hoosier Conference announced it's All-NHC team this week.
    "It was great to get five all-conference awards. The other three Bellmont players who got votes were all very close to making it too," said BHS coach Bill Meyer.

MOPS parks project gets major boost

    Leaders of the Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) have announced that a company is supporting the project with a donation which will match funds raised by the local group.
    "Game Time/Sinclair Recreation has agreed to match all donations raised by November 5 up to $35,000," MOPS said in a news release. "This means that all contributions will be doubled!"
    Time, however, becomes a key factor as only funds raised by November 5 will be matched. Later donations will not be included in the match.

Fireworks delayed

    Decatur Mayor John Schultz announced today that the annual Callithumpian Fireworks show will be delayed one week due to extreme dry conditions.
    The fireworks were scheduled to be held this Saturday, but have now been postponed to Halloween, Sunday, October 31, at 9 p.m.
    Schultz said he and Fire Chief Les Marckel are hoping the city will get some much-needed rain before the new date.
    Trick or treating will be observed that same Sunday, from 6-8 p.m., with the fireworks at 9.

Lynn F. Burger

    Lynn F. Burger, 56, formerly of Celina, Ohio, died on Monday, October 18, 2010, at Shawnee Manor in Lima, Ohio.
    He was born September 14, 1954, in Decatur to Robert and Betty Barkley Burger, who survive in Decatur.    On February 14, 1976, he married Antoinette Huber in Carthagena, Ohio, and she survives in Celina. He is also survived by a brother, Mike Burger of Hamilton, Indiana.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Burger.

Vernon L. Horther

    Vernon L. Horther, 85, formerly of Van Wert, Ohio, died Thursday in Lima Manor at Lima, Ohio.
    He was born to Clarence and Ina M. Hoffman Horther.
    Among survivors are a daughter, Mrs. William (Marlene) Otis of Westerville, Ohio, and three sons,Roy Horther of Fort Wayne, Terry Horther of Austin, Texas, and Rick Horther of Decatur.

    David Robertson, 68, of Berne, died today at Adams Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne.
